Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What information can I get from the Wayne County Law Library?

The Wayne County Law Library’s primary focus is providing legal materials for the local Judges, elected officials and county Bar Association members. However, the Law Library is open to members of the public if a librarian is available to assist that person.

The Library staff can only assist in accessing specific and available legal materials. There are no attorneys on the library staff, therefore we cannot answer any legal questions, advise you as to what to file or assist in the preparation of legal documents. Doing so constitutes the unauthorized practice of law and is illegal pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section §4705.

Q: Can I get legal forms from the Wayne County Law Library?

The Law Library has access to a variety of published forms. It might be possible to get a “sample” of a form which would assist you in preparing your legal document. However, there is not always a sample form available which will cover your specific set of circumstances. You may have to create your own legal document from similar type sample forms. It might be for your best interest to consult with an attorney to see if your legal situation is something that you can handle on your own or if you should have legal representation.

The Wayne County Law Library does not have any legal form kits or “fill in the blanks” forms available for your use or purchase.

Q: Can the Wayne County Law Library assist me in obtaining an attorney to represent me in a legal matter?

No, the Wayne County Law Library cannot assist you in obtaining legal counsel. The Law Library does, however, have legal directories of attorneys (by city of practice) which might assist you in locating an attorney. The yellow pages of your telephone directory have attorneys listed and several have purchased advertisements which highlight their practice area.

The local Bar Association does not currently have an Attorney Referral Service running in Wayne County, Ohio.

There are several legal websites which offer search engines to locate an attorney based on the city or legal practice area.

Q: How do I renew my Notary?

The link listed below will direct you to the Wayne County Clerk of Courts website which gives information on application for or renewal of a Notary commission.  If you have further questions, contact the Common Pleas Court's Administrative Secretary at (330) 287-5540.

Q: I have a problem with my attorney and would like to file something.  What can I do?

If you feel your attorney has violated a rule of ethics or conduct, you may file a grievance against the attorney.  A written grievance can be filed with the local Bar Association or with the Ohio Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline.

In Wayne County, you can call the Certified Grievance Committee of the Wayne County Bar Association at (330) 262-6198.  This number is a voice mail service where you can request the form to file a grievance.  Or you can print the form from the following link:

GrievanceForm.doc

To file a grievance with the Ohio Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline, please refer to the following website:

http://www.sconet.state.oh.us/BOC/default.asp

Please note that filing a grievance will allow for disciplinary action to be taken against the attorney if they are found in violation of their Code of Professional Responsibility.  Filing a grievance will not change the outcome of your case.  You may have to file a complaint for legal malpractice in order to recover monetary damages.

More information on this topic can be found on the Ohio Supreme Court's Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline FAQ web page at:
